St James Spring closed for water collection

27 March 2026

Residents are advised that the St James Spring collection point at 4 Main Road, Muizenberg, is closed until further notice. Newlands Spring remains open as an alternative water source.

Following a routine on-site investigation, it was confirmed that there is currently no water flowing from the St James Spring source. As a result, the collection point has been temporarily closed until further notice.

During this time, the City will do necessary investigations to determine the reason for the lack of supply, while also carrying out infrastructure maintenance and cleaning at the site.

‘I appreciate residents’ initiative to use alternative water sources for irrigation and other non-potable applications by collecting water at the St James Spring collection point. However, as the return of water to the St James Spring is not guaranteed at this stage, I encourage residents to make use of the Newlands Spring collection point during this period,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.

The Newlands Spring collection point is located on the northern side of the Newlands Swimming Pool, along Main Road in Newlands. It is open to the public seven days a week, from 05:00 to 21:00.

Reminder
Spring water is not treated and is collected and used at the residents’ own risk.
